1983: Began practicing Wushu at age 9.
1985: Selected for Chengdu City Wushu Team at age 11.Won Changquan and Sparring Titles in the 1985 Sichuan Provincial Wushu Championships.
1986: Won title of All-Around Champion at Sichuan Province's first-ever Youth Games Wushu Contest, in addition to the top place in the Changquan, Sword, and Sparring events. Selected by Sichuan Province's Professional Wushu Team's top coach, Xiong Chang-Gui (5-year National Staff Champion, 3rd-generation Monkey King), to join the Sichuan Professional Wushu Team.
At the same time, received training from 5-year National Tongbeiquan Champion, Ren Gang.
1988: Won the following at National Youth Wushu Championships: Staff - 1st place, Sword - 2nd place, Sparring - 2nd place, Spear - 3rd place, Overall - 5th place. Inducted afterwards into the Sichuan Wushu Team as a professional athelete.
1989: Won National Wushu Championship in the Sword event, 1st place.
1990: Won National Wushu Championships in Sparring and Drunken Sword events. 1st place for both. Received commendation from the Chinese Wushu Association (“Wu Ying”, or Martial Elite grade).
1991: Won National Wushu Championships in Sparring and Sword events, placing 2nd in both.
1992: Won the following at National Wushu Championships: Tongbeiquan - 1st place, Sparring - 2nd place, Sword - 3rd place.
1993: Won Sword - 2nd place at the Seventh National Games Wushu Championships. In September of the same year, invited to Changjou as a marquee performer (in a group staff demonstration alongside 6 staff masters and their children) in the opening ceremony for International Wushu Day. On December 7th of the same year, began 1-year performance tour in the United States, by invitation of the Shenzhen Splendid China Co.
1994: Fulfilled Splendid China U.S. tour in October, then joined the Shenzhen Splendid China Ethnic Song & Dance Troupe as a dance performer upon returning to China.
1995: Reassigned to Sichuan Wushu Team in November, in order to continue contributing to Sichuan Province's Wushu endeavors.
1996: Won National Wushu Championships in the following events: Chongquan - 3rd place, Sword - 3rd place, Sparring - 3rd place. In November of same year, attended the fourth Asian Wushu Championships with the Chinese National Wushu team, as a marquee performer in the opening ceremony.
1997: Won National Wushu Championships in the following events: Sparring - 3rd place, Sword/Spear All-Around Score - 4th place. Awarded 3rd Dan by Sichuan Provincial government. Graduated in the same year from Chengdu Sports University, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Wushu.
1998: Won National Wushu Championships in the following events: Sword - 3rd place, Sparring - 3rd place. In July of the same year, accepted position of Head Coach of Taiwan's Kaohsiung Guoshu Team (Taiwan refers to Wushu as Guoshu). In October of the same year, participated in the large-scale Chinese Wushu stage performance “Wu Song”, alongside famous performers such as singer Peng Liyuan and film stars Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Wu Jing. In November of the same year, traveled to Hong Kong with the Chinese National Wushu Team to perform.
1999: Won National Wushu Championship in Sword - 1st place. In July of the same year, represented Chengdu Sports University in the National Collegiate Wushu Championships, winning Chongquan - 1st place, Spear - 1st place, Drunken Sword - 1st place, Team events - 2nd place, Team All-Around Best Scores - 2nd place. In November of the same year, visited Burma to perform in the Asian Games - Wushu competition.
2000: Won National Wushu Championships in the following: Sword - 1st place, Spear - 1st place, Sparring - 1st place. Selected to join China's National Wushu Team. Competed in the fifth Asian Wushu Championships, winning Spear - 1st place.
2001: Won National Wushu Championships in Sword (1st pace) and Sparring (2nd place). Award 2nd Dan by Sichuan Provincial government. In October of same year, represented China's Wushu elite in a performance for the Olympic Committee, making a significant contribution towards Wushu being adopted as an Olympic sport, and towards Beijing's winning bid for the 2008 Olympics.
2002: Accepted position as Head Coach of the Sichuan Provincial Wushu Team, developing numerous young Wushu talents.
2003: Led the Sichuan Wushu Team in China's National All-Cities Games - Wushu competition. Among the team members taught, Li Fuqui won the Men's Nanquan Championship - 1st place, and Zhou Lin won the Women's Nanquan Championship - 1st place.
2004: Led the Sichuan Wushu Team in China's National Youth Wushu Championships, taught team members who won championships in Men's Dao (1st place), Staff (1st place), Women's Sparring (1st place), Team Events (3rd place), Team All-Around (3rd place). Streamed numerous young Wushu athletes into professional teams. On October 20th of the same year, traveled to Hong Kong to star in a Hefty Bag commercial with international Wushu film star, Jackie Chan, by invitation of his agency. On October 26th of the same year, moved to U.S. to become a Head Coach at the Mount Emei Wushu Academy.
2005: Won title of All-Around Champion at the 13th Annual UC Berkeley Chinese Martial Arts Tournament in Berkeley, California (April 2, 2005).
2006: Won title of Grand Champion at the U.S. Capitol Classics Martial Arts Tournament in Washington, D.C (August 2006).
2005 to 2009: Taught numerous exceptional American Wushu athletes for the U.S. National Wushu Team.
Priscilla Lee:
Won 6 1st-place titles in the Women's Freshman Group at the The 16th Annual UC Berkeley Chinese Martial Arts Tournament. The following year, won 6 1st-place titles in the Women's JV Group at the 17th Annual UC Berkeley Chinese Martial Arts Tournament.
Anthony Magallanes, Jasmine Magallanes, & Monique Magallanes:
Won numerous championships in U.S.-based international Wushu competitions during 2007-08, awarded honor of “American Wushu's First Family” by American Wushu Magazine. On Dec 28, 2009, won Super Grand Sport Karate World Games three world champion in New York.
Peter Dang:
Joined U.S. National Team in 2009, represented the U.S. in the Tenth World Wushu Championships, earning exemplary scores.
Stephanie Lim:
Won consecutive American Collegiate Wushu Championships (All-Around Champion) in 2008 and 2009. Joined U.S. National Team in 2009, represented the U.S. in the Tenth World Wushu Championships, placing 8th place in Dao.
Tiffany Reyes:
Won 5 consecutive Female All-Around Champion awards at the 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th Annual UC Berkeley Chinese Martial Arts Tournaments. Joined the U.S. National Team in 2006 and 2008, placing 3rd at the World Wushu Championships.
Alfred Hsing:
Joined U.S. National Wushu Team in June 2009. Won Sword - 1st Place at 2009's Tenth World Wushu Championships, the first gold medal in the history of American Wushu. |
